Forests

The Navarino Wildlife Area has close to 7,000 acres of forest habitat, which is divided into forestry compartments for management practices.  Timber management practices are geared for aspen and brush species, oak and pine regeneration, and northern hardwoods, such as maples, beech, and hemlock.

These forests provide the perfect outdoor lab setting for studying the layers of the forest; decomposers, Wisconsin Forest management practices, and skills foresters use to measure trees.  Programs for both school groups and the general public help to increase knowledge about Wisconsin forests and forestry.

NNC holds a Forestry Issues in N. E. Wisconsin program every other year to help landowners, the general public, and foresters get together and discuss issues that are currently affecting forestry in N. E. Wisconsin.
