Updates
5/22/2026
Trail conditions: Trails are open and dry in some spots and other parts could be water logged. So if you want to come hike, just be prepared as conditions can change all the time.
Wildlife Sightings: There are Sandhill cranes, Trumpeter Swans, and migrating waterfowl coming in the open water areas as well as the farm fields. Please use caution as well as the spring brings the young wildlife and turtles using the edges of the roads. Please travel slowly.
Remember: Navarino Wildlife Area is a multiuse property and please respect everyone who wants to come out and use the property.
*Be prepared before you go. Wear protective clothing and be aware of the weather conditions. Dressing in bright colors while hiking is always recommended. Spring Turkey season is underway.
*Ticks, horseflies, deer flies, and mosquitos are present around the Navarino Wildlife Area in the summer season. Come prepared as the summer continues as the worst horsefly and deer fly times are end of June, July, and August. Wear protective clothing, bug nets, bug spray, and always check yourself after being outside. NNC staff and volunteers do check and mow the trails around the holidays to help keep the grass low, but always check for ticks.
*Please be respectful. Remember that the wildlife area is a multi-use property and we can all do our part to enjoy our time outdoors.
*If stopping to view wildlife, please cautiously move over as best as you can and put on your hazards as you slow down or if you are stopped. Please note that there are various parking lots and pull offs on McDonald Road that you can use to view wildlife.
*Be aware that Navarino Wildlife Area is a public wildlife area and is open for hunting and trapping. We encourage all hikers to wear bright colors and have their dogs easily identifiable. For questions, please feel free to contact NNC at 715-758-6999.
Thank you for helping us keep Navarino Wildlife Area a place that people enjoy coming to!
Dogs are welcomed on the wildlife area, but be aware that the Navarino Wildlife Area is open to hunting so having your dog on a leash or under your control is recommended.
For any questions, please contact the NNC staff at 715-758-6999.
